DAY 01 Tuesday, Oct 7, 2025

The Wright Brothers made their first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. In our journey, we'll be traveling slightly farther than they did on that historic day, heading west for over three thousand miles! Our ultimate destination, perfect for a Cannonball Run across America, is The Portofino Hotel & Marina in Redondo Beach, California.

On the first full day of the rally, we will depart from the Outer Banks, taking faster roads to cover a good distance toward Virginia quickly. A highlight of day 01 is often considered one of the best driving routes in America: the recommended route will take participants through the scenic highlights of the eastern side of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

DAY 02 Wednesday, Oct 8, 2025

Day two begins on the legendary VA16, leading us to the Back of the Dragon for an optional souvenir shopping spree, the shop opens at 9:00 AM. This ride is arguably better than the Tail of the Dragon. We will start early to avoid the crowds on some of the best riding roads east of the Mississippi.

This full-day features carefully selected paved roads that will impress even the most experienced riders. It promises to be an exciting day of riding, depending on how quickly you choose to navigate the Appalachian foothills. You may opt to bypass some checkpoints if you start to feel fatigued. The day’s checkpoints are primarily located at Butler Map G1 sections, so take the time to enjoy the ride.

The rally staff have arranged for the BOTD Photographer to capture our experience as we travel along this legendary road. In the later part of the day, we will transition to faster roads with the main goal of reaching the hotel before dark.

DAY 03 Thursday, Oct 9, 2025

There’s no doubt that the first half of Day Three involves some unavoidable interstate miles, but that’s just part of the Cannonball experience. After covering those miles, you can enjoy a scenic ride through the Ozark National Forest, making sure to avoid Memphis if you choose to follow the recommended GPX route. We have carefully mapped out a course through the Ozarks that will undoubtedly put a smile on your face after enduring the first half of the day. The Pigtrail Scenic Highway is a thing.

The Ozarks area is often overlooked by ADV riders, but those with experience never miss the chance to ride through it when crossing America’s motorcycle landscape.
